News from Community Board 2

Community Board 2 (CB2) will hold its March general meeting:

Wednesday, March 14th, 6PM
YWCA, 2nd floor gallery
30 Third Avenue (between Atlantic Ave and State St.)

 

Prior to the meeting, the community board will hear a presentation from Ricky Wong, deputy director of community relations for the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). Mr. Wong will speak about the agency’s role in City government and its enforcement activity last year in and around Community District 2.

Meeting Agenda

The meeting will begin with approval of the agenda and the minutes of the February 8, 2012 general meeting. CB2 Chairperson John Dew and District Manager Robert Perris will report.

Two committee chairpersons will present actions taken by the Executive Committee. Irene Janner, chair of the Finance and Personnel Committee, will present a draft district office budget for Fiscal Year 2013. The exec’ committee voted unanimously (7-0-0) to recommend approval of the budget.

 

DPR hopes to use the capital budget allocation for the Phase I renovation of Commodore Barry Park, already underway, as the local funding match.

 

The Parks and Recreation Committee chair, Andrew Lastowecky, will present the Executive Committee’s unanimous (8-0-0) recommendation to support a state grant application by the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to refurbish the basketball courts in Commodore Barry Park

 

Ruth Saunders, chairperson of the Heath, Environment and Social Services Committee, will present the committee’s unanimous (6-0-0) recommendation that the New York State legislature pass laws making the sale of synthetic cannabis (marijuana) illegal in New York State. Lawrence Whiteside, chairperson of the Land Use Committee, will present the committee’s recommendation that a petition for a revocable consent to construct, maintain and use stoops, stairs and fence-in areas in front of 123 Fort Greene Place. The committee voted 14 in favor, none opposed, one abstention (14-0-1) to approve the recommendation. If approved, the stoops, stairs and fence-in areas will extend 7′-6″ into the public right-of-way but will not reduce the width of the sidewalk since they align with existing fences on other properties. The community board’s economic development, transportation and youth committees will report on their meetings since the February 8, 2012 general meeting. The meeting will conclude with an open session at which the public may speak—Please sign the speakers list.—and other business, as introduced by board members.
