Brooklyn Bridge Rehabilitation

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Division of Bridges - Rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge

The New York City Department of Transportation is performing rehabilitation work on the Brooklyn Bridge ramps and approaches, which are in urgent need of repair. As part of the project, the steel components of the entire span will also be repainted to prevent corrosion. This work started in the spring and will continue until 2014.

To facilitate this work, DOT announces that the Brooklyn Bridge will be closed to Manhattan-bound traffic overnight, beginning on Monday, Aug. 23rd and will continue until the project is completed in 2014. All Manhattan-bound traffic will be detoured to the Manhattan Bridge or other crossings. All Brooklyn-bound traffic will be maintained, and there will be no closure of the pedestrian/cycling promenade. All work will occur during off-peak hours, and the bridge will be reopened for traffic in both directions each morning.

Closure Times

Sundays to Fridays: closures will begin at 11 PM and the lanes will reopen at 6 AM.

Saturdays: closure will begin at 12:01 AM and the lanes will reopen at 7 AM.

Sundays: closure will begin at 12:01 AM and lanes will reopen at 9 AM.

A downloadable brochure showing detour routes and closure dates and times is available at: http://nyc.gov/html/dot/downloads/pdf/brooklyn_bridge_brochure.pdf, or by contacting Sabrina Lau at the number below, to receive a copy in the mail. During closure times, a construction embargo will be in place on the Williamsburg and Manhattan Bridges, as well as on those local streets in Brooklyn and Manhattan that are utilized for detoured traffic.

DAM FUNK + MASTER BLAZTER
Crowned “ambassador of Boogie Funk,” Stones Throw DJ and recording artist Dam-Funk insists that though “Boogie is fun… I don’t want to be lumped into a hole… I’m not going to let anybody peg me.” (L.A. Times, 11/01/09). Indeed, Dam-Funk’s heavily synthesized music may be too modern to be considered strictly Boogie, but it’s definitely funk through and through. Originally a DJ, LA based Dam-Funk has recently been creating modern-funk atmosphere for worldwide audiences with his own compositions. This Summer’s notable tour stops include Warsaw, London, Helsinki, Singapore, and Fort Greene Park! Mirrors Music Video, Click Here
DJ SPINNA
Since the early 90′s, the “Golden Age” of the underground Hip-Hop movement, Brooklynite DJ Spinna has been a major presence in the world of underground music. Both artist and producer, DJ Spinna works primarily with hip hop, funk, soul, and dance music, and has mixed tracks for Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, and De La Soul. Spinna’s original beats have been featured in the work of the most prominent emcees in the music business, including Brooklyn’s own Mos Def and Talib Kweli.
