About the Artists:

Gordon Chambers, Grammy award winner who penned hit songs for some of R&B’s most iconic legends such as Anita Baker, Beyonce, Usher, Brownstone, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Patti Labelle, and The Isley Brothers. Join us for a listening party for his new album SINCERE followed by a brief performance.

Genesis Tramaine’s paintings invoke the voices of ancestors and give praise to the world around her. Genesis is totally excited about art, the only thing she really thinks about. Her work has been exhibited at John Allan Gallery, Atlantic Avenue Artwalk, The Shrine, 1 Front Street, and more.

In honor of Black History Month, the Fort Greene Association (FGA) and Greenlight Bookstore presents an evening of local literary history. Celebrated local authors (including Nelson George, author of City Kid and Carl Hancock Rux, author of Asphalt and Talk; John Lee,writer and director for Starz, MTV, Comedy Central and Adult Swim; and Martha Southgate, author of The Taste of Salt) discuss their work and what the neighborhoods of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill have meant to their writing.

ActNow Foundation kicks off their second annual five-day event reflecting the wide spectrum of views and themes within the African diaspora community in Brooklyn and beyond. A home to ActNow film screenings since August 2009, including last summer’s New York premiere of The Wonder Year, Kenneth Price’s documentary profile of Grammy Award-winning producer 9th Wonder, BAMcinématek continues its partnership to provide exposure to new and compelling voices in Black independent cinema.

About the Artists

Steve Mayo’s work was has been showcased in an exhibition at The World Bank, Washington D.C. and Aljira, Newark, New Jersey. In 2006 his piece Katrina Didn’t Do This was acquired by the David Driskell Center of the University of Maryland College Park.

Soul Summit Music Festival produced over the past ten years a Music Festival that has become an institution developing a loyal following of music fans that bring the hills of Fort Greene Park alive with families, food, dancing. The festival provides the backdrop for access to music, networking and other activities.
