Artisan Market Returns
Fort Greene Park

Free and open to the public - Peter Blanchette performs
Taking a break from his busy schedule to support Fort Greene Park, Peter Blanchette, inventor of the 11 String archguitar, will be performing at Fort Greene Park’s Artisan-Market on three consecutive Saturdays, premiering on Saturday, September 11 and returning September 18 and 25.
Blanchette will travel from Northampton, Massachusetts to perform. You can just walk a few blocks to hear some fine music…, shop at Ft.Greene Park’s Artisan-Market and GreenMarket and perhaps become a member of the Ft. Greene Park Conservancy.
Mark Morris Dance Group Open House

Free Dance Classes, Live Music & MMDG Performances

The Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG) will host the ninth annual Open House as part of the MMDG’s 30th Anniversary Celebration at its home in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, on Saturday, September 11 from 10AM to 5PM. All events are free.

The School at the Mark Morris Dance Center will offer free classes for all ages in abilities in Pilates, Tap Dance, Jazz/Hip-Hop Dance, Modern Dance, Ballet, Zumba, Tango, Parent/Toddler, West African, Music & Singing and Feldenkrais throughout the day. An all-boys dance class taught by company member, David Leventhal; a Dance for Parkinson’s Disease (Dance for PDsm) class; and a special interactive demonstration, Dance with MMDG will also be offered. Dance with MMDG gives participants the opportunity to experience the Mark Morris Dance, Music, and Literacy Project while discussing and learning a section of Morris’ The Hard Nut, coming to BAM this December.

Performances featuring the Mark Morris Dance Group, the Student Dance Company and special guests from the Horizons at Brooklyn Friends School are scheduled in the James & Martha Duffy Performance Space beginning at 12PM.

Refreshments will be provided by neighborhood businesses throughout the day.

The fall semester of classes for children and teens (ages 4-17) begins the week of September 13. Adult classes are available on a weekly drop-in basis and in six-week workshops.

Foodies: Brooklyn Food Coalition’s Good Food Fest takes over Myrtle between Vanderbilt and Clinton! Cooking demos, a best dish contest, beekeeping, Teen Battle Chefs, community chefs, free tastings…and more! Also, there’ll be sidewalk cafes outside most of the restaurants between Clermont and Hall where you can sit and enjoy the action over lunch!
Kids: Community painting activity with Clinton Hill Hardware! Hula hoops, street chalk and tons of old-school games. Free facepainting between Clinton and Vanderbilt! Free ballet class @ Move With Grace at 2pm, and kiddie manicures outside Polish Bar Brooklyn!
Greenies: Bring your e-waste to Green in BKLYN (Myrtle between Clinton and Waverly) from noon and 6pm, and play a game with GrowNYC to learn the rules of recycling.
Dancers: Get your groove on with Soul Summit from 3pm-6pm near Clermont, or participate in one of Move With Grace’s free dance classes throughout the day.
Art enthusiasts: Also at Green in BKLYN - meet Tillamook Cheddar, renowned dog artist (yes, he’s a dog!), and check out his work (from noon-2pm)!
…and lots of programs and specials at Myrtle businesses all along the avenue!
