Hopefully you’ve already heard about DOT’s fantastic new initiative, called Weekend Walks (www.nyc.gov/dot/weekendwalks), where multiple-block stretches are closed to vehicle traffic to create temporary pedestrian plazas. We’re excited to participate for the first time this year with “Move About Myrtle”, which will take place on all four Sundays in September on Myrtle between Clinton and Emerson (see our blog here: http://www.myrtleavenue.org/blog/index.cfm/2009/7/22/Myrtle-Avenue-becomes-Clinton-Hills-backyard-this-September).
We’re looking to assemble a small core group of volunteers to become “Community Coordinators”, who are willing to help organize and coordinate activities on event days. I’m sure many of you have great ideas that will help to create successful temporary public spaces, and the events will only be better with your energy involvement! Community Coordinators would most likely have to commit a few hours per week for email correspondence, and and definitely a few hours on one or more of the event days. Also a meeting and phone call here and there for check-ins.
We’re excited to bring this initiative to Clinton Hill, and see great potential for community-building and community engagment. Please shoot me an email if you’re interested, and I’ll coordinate a first meeting. Also feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Very best,
Meredith
