The Fort Greene Association received a call on July 19, 2007 from the Army National Guard. It turns out that the Guard was surprised to find out that they owned Admiral’s Row in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. That discovery has set back the transfer of the property to the city and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation by 12-18 months….
According to the Public Information officer, before title can be transferred, public hearings and meetings need to take place… environmental reviews need to be conducted… and engineers will need to inspect the properties. By law, this process takes an average of 12 months. When asked the Guard’s intentions, the Captain said that it was their goal to transfer the property as soon as possible… with no indication of any desire to save, or reuse, the historic buildings.
